NOTES FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Hello,

My name is Patty Hildebrand. I have had the privilege to have spent the last 22 years with Larry Hildebrand. We always wanted to make a trip to one of your reunions but never made it. In 2018 I noticed that Larry was having memory and language problems. In 2019 he was diagnosed with vascular dementia, most likely caused by exposure to Agent Orange while serving in Viet Nam.

His first engagement was the battle of Rip Cord. Larry lived a biker lifestyle as many of our young returning veterans did. It was an outlet for emotional distress and he found connection . Larry was briefly married but the marriage ended after a few short years.

Larry decided he wanted to settle down and in 2001 we met online, courted via the internet and had our first date on October 5th. We have been together and in love since then. We married in 2005, our wedding incorporated his passion for skydiving and we wed at 13,500 feet. It was amazing.

I have been blessed with him for nearly 22 and am very grateful.

In the fall of 2022 I was forced to place Larry in the Claremore Vetrans Center as I no longer could keep him safe. He is 100% disabled from PTSD and yet he managed to live a full life and was an instructor at Spartan College for nearly 30 years. I’m so proud of him

I was hoping perhaps you could send him a card at the center? I have made his room our home away from home and I visit at least five days a week, he smiles when he sees me and for the first time since we have been together he no longer suffers from the night terrors and visual hallucinations he had. The Lord works in mysterious ways. I’m so glad he’s peaceful.

My heart aches watching his world get smaller and forgotten. I know he’s safe and calm and peaceful. The staff there is loving and caring and supportive of both of us.

There are many Vetrans there who have no visitors and it is my pleasure to be able to share moments with them.

Thank you for remembering Larry with your mailings, I appreciate you.

If anyone would like to send cards to Larry or the other veterans, here is the address:
