FRED MASTROMARINO |
Fred Mastromarino was with us 69-70. He was from Highland
Falls, New York. He was also on our "Lost Avengers" list because
we lost contact with him. We would love to get in touch with him
again! Sadly we learned he has passed. |

NOTES FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS |
Holly Dickerson wrote the following on our Facebook group: I believe Fred was wounded pretty bad on Jan 17, 1970 when our platoon was attacked by a large element of the NVA and we were outside the artillery coverage area. It was a very long night. If I’m correct there was about half of around 36 of us that were wounded that night. Doc Close was a real hero that night even though he had lost a finger he took care of all the wounded and went out on the last medivac the next day. |
Ken Counts notified us of Fred's passing on 17 Sep 2024. He wrote: To All. Sad news I just heard from a friend of Fred Mastromarino (69/70) passed away of natural causes yesterday. If anyone knew him & want to reach out to Annie Scott 845-222-5947 Fred lost his wite a few months ago & Annie thinks he had a brother. I know Fred had a Purple Heart.Anyone knowing him or his family please reach out to Annie. Please remember Fred in your prayers. Another Brother Lost. May he Rest In Peace! |
Ken Snyder replied to Ken Counts' post. Fred "Mastro" was in 3rd platoon and was wounded during a sachel charge attack. I know he lost at least one finger because he crawled screaming into the platoon cp Doc Close was allready wounded so Don Lafferty gave him a shot of morphine while I bandaged his hand it was so dark I had to apply the bandage by feel and I could feel fingers dangling by skin and bone ends. Fred asked me if his fingers were gone and I just told him I think they are broken. RIP brother and may God bless your family and friends. |
