JOHN F PALMER

SP4 John F. Palmer arrived at Fort Campbell, KY in 1967 and was assigned to A/2-501 IN. He deployed with A/2-501 IN to Vietnam, December 1967. John was on our March 1968 Roster.

OBITUARY

John Franklin Palmer, IV, 66, "The Mailman", passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the York Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth M. Palmer. He was born October 5, 1947, to the late John F. and Mary Palmer III. In his youth, he was a member of the Smalls AME Zion Church and Bethel AME Church. John graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1966 where he excelled in Track and Cross Country. In track he was part of the "Fearless Four", known as one of the fastest relay teams for York High. He later joined the U.S. Army where he was honorable discharged and bestowed honors of Purple Heart and two Bronze metals for his service in the Vietnam War (Alpha Original 67-68). John has been known as "The Mailman" throughout the city for his committed service to the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years. His other memberships are Social Friendship F&AM #42, Life Member of American Legion Post #794, Life Member of American Legion Post #127, Life Member of American Legion Post #556. Member of Elks Lodge, Life Member of Purple Hearts, Life Member 101st Airbourne, Life Member Vietnam Post #35, Life Member Combat Infantry, Florida, Member of Vietnam Vets of Florida. He is survived by his children, John Palmer, V (Beatrice), Portia Palmer-Bryant (Lester), Jackie Leonard Palmer (Keona), Jaris Palmer and Carl E. Williams III who was like a son; grandchildren, Denatia Palmer, John F. Palmer VI, Leasha Bryant, Jaylin Master Bryant, Tiani Palmer and Jackson K. Palmer.; and a brother, Wayne "Buster" Palmer. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Palmer and a grandson, Jamere Marquis Palmer. Viewing will be Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 to 11 a.m. at Smalls AME Zion Church 401 S. Queen St. Rev. Adrian Boxley and Rev Robert O. Bailey Officiating. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by Phillips Funeral Home, Baltimore, Maryland.
