NOTES FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Ed Mitchel posted this note on our Facebook group on 31 Mar 2021.

“Brothers”, I ask that you pause for a moment today to remember SP4 DANIEL KAYE KOHL, 11B20=Infantryman, A Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry, who gave his life on this date (31 March) 1970 while we were defending Fire Support Base Bastogne. Daniel was standing guard atop his fighting position that rainy, dark night on Bastogne when an errant 155mm artillery round (fired from Fire Support Base Birmingham) landed near his position and took his life (recorded as “nonhostile-died outright-accident”). SP4 KOHL was 22 years old at the time of his death, a native of Denver Colorado; was posthumously promoted to Sergeant, and was buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO. MAY THIS BRAVE WARRIOR AND “BROTHER” FOREVER REST IN PEACE.
